What Are The Health Benefits Of Beetroot And Beet Juice?

Beetroot has long been linked to better stamina, improved blood flow and purification, lower blood pressure, and the lessening of various inflammations.

Maybe try it instead of lots of pills?

Some Of The Latest Research

Beetroot For Blood Pressure Management

Researchers have known for some time that beet juice helps lower blood pressure, but in 2010 UK researchers revealed that nitrate is the special ingredient in beetroot which lowers blood pressure, thereby helping fight heart disease.

In a Queen Mary University of London study.

Healthy participants were given one of,

A glass of beetroot juice.

A placebo.

Or nitrate tablets.

Blood pressure was lowered within 24 hours in people who took nitrate tablets and also in those who drank the beetroot juice.

You’ll Get Used To The Taste

The researchers said that beetroot juice is at first a love it or hate it kind of drink, but people who hated it at first, soon got used to it.

If you’re blood pressure is said to be high then maybe try some beetroot or the juice on a regular basis?

Far better than ending up on multiple medications.

And a fresh chopped garlic clove works wonders too. Chop it up and wait for 5-10 minutes before swallowing it with a little juice.

Beetroot For The Brain And Dementia

Another 2010 study suggests that drinking beetroot juice increases blood flow to the brain in older people, which in turn should fight off the progression of dementia.

How does beetroot do it?

Beetroot contains high concentrations of nitrates, which are converted into nitrites by bacteria in the mouth.

And nitrites help open blood vessels in the body, thereby increasing blood flow and oxygen to places lacking in oxygen.

Previous studies have shown that nitrites widen blood vessels, but US researchers writing in Nitric Oxide: Biology and Chemistry say theirs was the first research to find that nitrites also increase blood flow to the brain.

Another great article. Thank you. This is so true. As a plant-based eater I do both, eat and drink my beetroots on a regular basis. I don’t know what high blood pressure is because every time I measure it, the machine just shows the perfect figures! :-)
