Before going into the very many benefits of lemon juice, let’s first look at the possible damage that it can, or won’t do to your teeth.

According to the American Dental Association (ADA), bacteria start attacking teeth within twenty minutes of eating or drinking, after which time the assault begins on the tooth enamel.

The starch from sugary drinks forms a sticky bond on teeth, which keeps acids on the tooth surface much longer, so try to avoid them.

Occasionally drinking a full glass of water with a squeeze of lemon in it is highly unlikely to cause any serious damage to tooth enamel. But doing so regularly without rinsing or brushing off the citric acid can eat at the enamel if it’s done long term and if precautions aren’t taken.

Precautions?

So the simple answer is, brush, or simply rinse your teeth within twenty minutes of drinking a glass of lemon juice.

Citrus seeds are not good for you. They’re not a really serious thing but just strain them off when you pour the juice.

Sugars and all honeys with the exception of Manuka honey, will reduce the effectiveness of lemons.

(d) It also aids iron absorption in the body and iron plays an important role in the body’s immune function.

2. Lemon juice is a diuretic and helps flush out unwanted toxins from the body, and will likely prevent either extremes of constipation or diarrhea

3. Lemons are an antiseptic and have a powerful cleansing effect on the liver, kidneys, and blood.

4. Especially first thing in the morning, lemon juice will help relieve, and may even prevent digestive problems like bloating, intestinal gas and heartburn.

5. This might surprise you, but lemon juice will quickly stop heartburn because it balances pH Levels. Of course lemons are acidic, but inside our bodies they become alkaline, and the citric acid doesn’t create acidity in the body once it’s been metabolized.

How To Mix The Water And Juice

Just squeeze half a lemon into water and drink it down.

If you can, then use filtered water, and it should be just lukewarm and not scalding hot.

Avoid ice cold water, since that might be too much for your body to process, because it takes more energy to process ice cold water than warm.

How The Studies Were Conducted

In the study, researchers gave two types of fat to mice in addition to their regular diets.
One was palmitic acid, a saturated fat found in beef, butter, cheese and palm oil.
The other, oleic acid, which is a healthier fat common in found in olive oil, fish, nuts and soybeans.

After just three days the brains of the mice being given palmitic acid became resistant to the appetite-suppressing hormones leptin and insulin.

The mice being given oleic acid did not react in the same way.

And How About Humans?

Similar research on humans work suggests that the same holds true for them too.

Author Deborah Clegg, Ph.D., R.D., at the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center in Dallas recommends.

  • Do your best to resume a healthy diet after a weekend binge.
  • Start meals with salads instead of bread.
  • Replace alcoholic beverages with water.
  • And eat more slowly by putting your fork down between bites: it normally takes about 20 minutes for your body to register fullness.
